Donate to the Runnin’ Refs.  Fit to officiate and also a way to give back to the community.

Founder | Director

Dr. Joe Underwood has been serving the officials of the MDFOA since 1985 in many capacities. In 2010, as President of the MDFOA, Dr. Underwood was looking for a way to get officials FIT TO OFFICIATE and also for a way to give back to the community. This resulted in the establishment of the RUNNIN’ REFS and included members participating in a 5K as well as finding sponsorship funding for their efforts to be contributed to a worthy charitable cause. Since that initial RUNNIN’ REFS 5K the MDFOA has contributed over $17,000 to help community efforts both in South Florida and around the world: Galapagos Tools for Schools (school supplies for children in the Galapagos Islands); Run for Something Better (running shoes for children in need in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools); Russell Education Foundation (improving literacy for children in Miami under the leadership of former Miami Dolphin Twan Russell); KiDZ Neuroscience Center at UHealth (research and educational initiatives for the treatment of traumatic head injuries through the University of Miami); Asante Sana for Education (empowering Tanzanian youth and strengthening communities through education). We hope that the next time one of our proud members in stripes asks you to help them in their efforts to help others that you will sponsor a RUNNIN’ REF as they get FIT TO OFFICIATE and contribute to a very worthy cause.
